Mechanical systems, like electrical systems can benefit from thermography. There are a few non destructive technologies that can be used to determine mechanical problems while the equipment is in operation.
The two technologies used most today are vibration analysis, and oil analysis. Thermography is becoming another often used technology in verifying conditions found with vibration and oil analysis.
As you can see by the pictures on the right, warm, or hot bearings can be easily detected. With thermography, we can detect whether the bearings are hot, however using vibration analysis we can determine why they are hot. Thermography allows for quick scanning of machinery to determine its thermal condition.
